A fantasy story that brings together four famous fairy tales in a tale of adventure and mystery will come to life in the first-ever musical to be staged by TAS Middle School on 1-3 June.
Inspired by the Grimm Brothers’ works ‘Cinderella’, ‘Little Red Riding Hood’, Jack and the Beanstalk’ and ‘Rapunzel’, Stephen Sondheim’s musical Into the Woods Jr is the journey of a baker and his wife who must collect magical items from classic fairy tales to reverse a witch’s curse which has prevented them from having children – a journey that sees them changed forever.
With terrific music, fantastic costumes and enthusiastic acting, the truncated adaptation of this highly-acclaimed production is sure to delight and entertain audiences from Kindergarten-age upwards.
Director Mrs Leasa Cleaver said the production offered an amusingly different way to think about everyone’s favourite fairy tale characters.
“The choice of musical was appealing due to the variety of strong contrasting characters that would give many students an opportunity to showcase their talents,” she said.
“From the first rehearsal the students have collaborated on gaining a new perspective on these fairy tales and the ethical issues these stories present.”
There will be four performances of Into the Woods Jr in the TAS Hoskins Centre on1, 2, 3 June at 7.00pm and a matinee on 2 June at 2.00pm. For bookings go to www.trybooking.com/PNBA
