Runners from The Armidale School had an outstanding day at the North Coast Independent Schools cross country championships at Ballina today, with all 11 athletes making the top 10 in their age group and eight qualifying for the Combined Independent Schools titles.

In the 10 years division, Jonathon Harris was first with teammate Jasper Russ fifth; Sam Jones (Mullaley) was second in the 13s, while also second, was Hunter Hine in the 14 years.

Sam Marshall (Burren Junction) sixth and Nick Taylor tenth in the 15s, whilst TAS boys dominated positions in the 17 years with Michael Harris in second, Lewis Taylor third, Angus Webber fourth and Sam Finlayson sixth. Completing the solid results was KB Fergusson, who crossed the line in second place in the 18 years race.

“To have the whole team finish in the top 10 of their age group is a terrific achievement for these boys,” TAS Athletics coordinator Jim Pennington said.

The top five in every year group will go on to compete in the CIS championships in Sydney next month.

The North Coast Independent Schools association is a representative pathway for TAS in various sports including cross country, athletics and swimming.
