IT may be summer holidays, but The Armidale School will be alive with activity during January. Please note the following events in your diaries that may be of interest.
Opera New England – La Traviata 13-23 January
Rehearsals for the Opera New England production, La Traviata, begin at TAS Hoskins Centre on 13 January. For the fourth year, Opera New England offers opera students from Sydney and Queensland Conservatoriums a unique opportunity to perform a role in a full-length opera – in 2016, this being Verdi’s La Traviata. The performers will be living in one of the school’s boarding houses during rehearsals, which take place during the day. The days of 18-19 would be ideal for a visit. For media inquiries, please ring TAS Business Manager (and ONE set designer!) Pat Bradley on 0408 662 542.
Independent Schools’ Cricket Festival – 18-21 January
TAS will host Opens teams from Downlands College Toowoomba, St Ignatius College Riverview, Shore School, Sydney and Scots PGC College, Warwick, at the Independent Schools Cricket Festival. TAS will be defending the title having been joint winners at the 2015 festival hosted by St Ignatius College, Riverview.
Forensic Science Management Camp – 19-21 January
Organisation of the annual TAS Forensic Science Camp begins in January, when student organisers from as far as Sydney and Qld join with TAS students to start setting their criminal scenarios, organise logistics etc. These students will be living on campus for this period and could be of interest.
Bye Bye Birdie Camp – 20-22 January
TAS, in conjunction with NEGS and PLC Armidale will be staging the musical Bye Bye Birdie in Term 1. As part of preparations, the cast will be in rehearsals at Musical Camp at TAS from 20-22 January. Girls start at TAS – 28 – January
It will be an historic moment for TAS on 28 January when an estimated 43 girls commence as secondary students. This includes 15 boarders who will come from Sydney, Moree and the NENW region.
A media alert will be sent closer to the time, but for the meantime, please mark this morning in your diaries. I will be on leave from 19 December – 19 January, but will still be contactable by mobile or contact either my colleague Cressida Mort on 0417 271 835 or TAS Reception on 6776 5800.
Best wishes for the holiday season.
