Footballers selected for CIS competition at NCIS championships

The Armidale School’s Jim Orr and Lachlan Knowles have been selected for the North Coast Independent Schools’ representative football team following the NCIS titles hosted by TAS yesterday (15 March).

While wet weather earlier in the week forcing the closure of two fields and the cancellation of the junior girls’ division, more than 200 primary boys and secondary boys and girls from eight schools took part in the championships.

With two wins, a draw and a loss, the TAS First XI were runners up in the senior boys behind Bishop Druitt College of Coffs Harbour, who made a clean sweep of all three divisions.

The championship was also the first game for the inaugural TAS girls’ secondary football team, which lost three matches by narrow margins (0-2, 0-1, 0-2).

Mr Andrew Patrick from TAS was one of two selectors of the secondary boys team, which comprises players from Bishop Druitt College, Emmanuel Anglican College Ballina, Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School Tweed Heads, and TAS.

“We had a very difficult job choosing the squad – there were a lot of quality football played across the schools,” he said.

“In the end we had to select players who were not only talented, but could work well with others given they will only be training together for the first time at the CIS championships itself.”
